The system makes use of photovoltaic technology and a unique PTC AC/DC
element to heat the water in the geyser. This differs from the
traditional thermal hot water systems where water is cycled from a
collector through pipes to the hot water cylinder by either making use
of a 220V pump, 12V pump or thermo siphoning.
Advantages over thermal hot water systems are as follows
• Any existing geyser can be converted.
• No Additional plumbing is required.
• No pumps necessary to circulate water.
• No risk of damaged panels in frost prone areas.
• The water temperature can be controlled on very hot summer days – reduced risk of overheating in problems.
• Suitable in all water conditions.
• Suitable in areas where the geyser is not situated near the panels.
• Modular system – can be expanded to build off-grid power system for the home.
Any geyser can be fitted with the system and we offer the system for 100L,
150L and 200L geysers. Please note geyser note included.
Solar Retrofit Components
The first thing that have to be determined is the working pressure i.e. 400kPa or 600kPa of the existing electric water heater that is to be converted to a solar water heater as this will determine which installation component kit is required.

To choose the correct components for your PV Water heating system it is important to know the irradiation levels in your area. In case of low irradiation areas more PV panels will be needed to get similar heating performance to high irradiation areas.

The dynamic resistance and output of PTC heaters makes them an excellent choice for providing controlled electric heating. In many applications it is possible to do away entirely with thermostatic controls. Simplification of design and reduced energy consumption represent significant cost savings for a given application. The removal of failure prone components such as thermostats can also add significantly to the reliability of a product. Safety is an added benefit, since no matter how much current is applied to the PTC; it will never surpass its intended surface temperature.
